A.J. Adam Engineering was worked directly for the Owner as the prime consultant to design replacement cooling towers serving multiple buildings in one neighborhood of a retirement community campus. The project included replacing two injector-type cooling towers with two 2-fan induced draft cooling towers controlled by VFDs, along with two 75 HP VFD-controlled tower water pumps, two heat exchangers, and a new tower water loop filtration system. Due to space constraints inside the building, the tower filtration system was installed in a heated enclosure, and a free-standing shelter was provided along with individual weather-protected enclosures to house the equipment VFDs. The structural support system for the cooling towers was completely replaced, and a decorative pergola added to help blend the cooling tower into the architecture of the community.
