A.J. Adam Engineering worked directly for the Owner as the prime consultant to provide engineering design services for providing air conditioning and replacing the boilers for this 60-year-old, 139,500 SF school. In addition, A.J. Adam Engineering managed a number of design sub-consultants, including architects, structural engineers, civil engineers, and industrial hygeinists to provide a complete and integrated design solution for the Owner. The project includes providing 2 air-cooled screw compressor chillers in an masonry enclosure with acoustical treatment, replacing 2 heating water pumps with 3 new dual-temperature pumps, providing ducted fan coil units to serve the corridors and specific rooms, replacing 2 existing gas-fired scotch marine boilers and associated steam-to-hot-water heat exchanger with 3 high-efficiency condensing-type gas-fired hydronic boilers, replacing 7 existing heating-only air handling units (AHUs) with heating-cooling AHUs; replacing multiple DX split system units throughout the building, replacing an existing rooftop DX AHU and associated air distribution system serving the Administration Office area with 1 variable refrigerant volume (VRV) system, replacing the existing DX split system in the Health Suite with 1 VRV system, updating the Building Management System (BMS), upgrading the building electrical service from 2,000A to 3,000A, with all-new transformers, duct banks, MEMA generator docking station, and switchgear, and replacing all building lighting with high-efficiency LED luminaires.
